Ribbon-cutting to celebrate West Soda Rock Lane reopening as Sonoma County advances storm recovery projects

SANTA ROSA, CA | October 01, 2025

Sonoma County today announced the reopening of West Soda Rock Lane, the second of six priority, storm-recovery road projects to reach completion. A ribbon-cutting celebration will be held Friday, Oct. 3, at noon, bringing together County staff, contractors, and the West Soda Rock community to mark the milestone.

“By investing in these fixes, we’re reducing the lingering impacts of last winter’s devastating storms,” said Supervisor James Gore. “Roads like West Soda Rock Lane are lifelines for residents, businesses, and first responders, and moving quickly to restore them keeps our communities safe and connected.”

What’s new since Aug. 28:

  • Westside Road reopened on Aug. 28, the first project to finish.
  • Cavedale Road repairs are progressing at both landslide sites, with one site on track to finish within the week.
  • Wohler Bridge access was restored in June; crews are working to meet an Oct. 15 Caltrans deadline to wrap up creek bank and bridge strengthening ahead of rainy season. No additional bridge closures are expected in 2025.
  • North Fitch Mountain, prioritized after successive landslides last winter, is targeted to reopen in October.
  • Giovanetti Road design is 30 percent complete and on track to begin construction in 2026.

“The Board’s emergency funding approval in April allowed us to deliver this work at an unprecedented pace,” said Johannes J. Hoevertsz, Director of Sonoma County Public Infrastructure. “Restoring full access on West Soda Rock Lane means the community and emergency responders once again have safe, reliable routes in and out of the area.”

Event details: Ribbon-cutting for West Soda Rock Lane, Friday, Oct. 3, noon. The program will be under 30 minutes. Community members, project partners, and local leaders are invited to attend.
